Art on the Davidson College Campus: Featured Sculptors and Artists

About Zhan Wang

Zhan Wang (b. 1962) is a Chinese artist best known for his Artificial Rock sculptures. Graduate of the China Central Academy of Fine Art and based in Beijing, Zhan creates dynamic, conceptual works that blend the traditional with the contemporary. His Artificial Rock series, for example, seeks to reconsider historic Chinese scholar's rocks; as Zhan explains, "The material's glittering surface, ostentatious glamour, and illusory appearance make it an ideal medium to convey new dreams."
