How to Find Newspapers

NYT Site License

New for 2023 Davidson College will be expanding access to The New York Times to all current faculty, students, and staff through a site license available beginning December 21, 2022. This offer comes to us through Center for Research Libraries and it is thanks to our membership with CRL that we are able to join the offer.

Details of the Site License:

  • You will have a free personal account to with unlimited access
  • Archives access from 9/18/1851-12/31/2002
  • Podcasts such as The Daily, and access to Live Events
  • Access to the New York Times via web or mobile app
  • Teaching and learning content for faculty
  • Student access runs through 12/31 of their graduation year
  • Faculty/staff will need to renew access every four years
  • Premium apps such as Games, Cooking, Wirecutter, etc. are NOT included

If you would like to take advantage of the free Davidson College access, but add the premium apps at an additional cost to you, contact the NYT.

Davidson College Instructions to Redeem Complimentary Subscription

All new and existing subscribers who want to take advantage of the Davidson College site license should visit to obtain your academic pass. NOTE: If using VPN, you must disconnect from VPN before access the site to obtain an academic pass.

  1. Click on
  2. Type in Davidson College
  3. You will then be directed to step-by-step directions that provide instructions based on whether you are on-campus or off-campus.
  4. If you are on campus and using WIFI, you must be connected to the Eduroam WIFI network.
  5. Once completed, you will see this screen:

4. To activate your account, you will need to identify yourself as a student or faculty/staff member. STUDENTS will need to indicate your expected graduation year.

5. Once completed you will see this screen:

6. Once you obtain an academic pass, click "Get Started" to personalize your account, or log into from any location on any web enabled device and sign-in with your newly created credentials.

Existing NYT Customers

Existing registered subscribers with ACTIVE PAID subscriptions who would like to cancel their subscription and use only Davidson’s Site License will need to cancel their personal subscription in order to take advantage of the school’s program. 

Subscribers will need to call 1- 800-698-4637. Once the subscription is canceled, they can immediately visit, type in the school’s name and follow the instructions based on their location. 

  • Since the subscriber “Already has an account " they click “Log In" (Found below "Create an Account"). 
  • Input their email address and the same “Password” created for their previous account.

Existing registered users of the NYT that DO NOT HAVE AN ACTIVE NYT SUBSCRIPTION:

  • Visit, type in Davidson College and follow the isntructions based on your location on or off campus.
  • Since you already have an account
    • Click "Log in" (Found below "Create an Account").
    • Input your email address and the same password created for your previous account.
