Lever Press publishes peer-reviewed, born digital, open access monographs at no cost to authors or their academic institutions (Platinum Open Access). Lever Press aims to publish work focused on research and teaching as well as that from academic leadership reflecting on liberal arts education, past and future. The Press was founded with three essential commitments:
In February 2021, Davidson College joined over 50 liberal arts institutions in supporting Lever Press. By supporting Lever Press and its open access model, Davidson College is a member of a collective of like-minded institutions who advocate for the liberal arts and are invested in ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion within the scholarly ecosystem. Members play a role in the shaping the editorial program and principles of Lever Press.
Lever Press is interested in proposals sent in for individual projects or for series of works that are consistent with the theme and focus of the three commitments listed above.
Existing series with Lever Press include ASIANetwork Books, publishing original monographs with a liberal arts approach to Asian Studies; Multimodal Monographs, resembling traditional print but use embedded media forms to convey ideas that are better seen in a dynamic format; Open Access Musicology, a collection of essays focused on modes of inquiry rather than content coverage; Re-Editions, digital editions of forgotton or overlooked texts that are suitable for the classroom in teaching literary and cultural history.
