How to Find Videos

How to find streaming videos and DVDs, create playlists and clips, and more

What it is

The Alexander Street Press Academic Video Online collection is a great resource for Davidson College researchers with a wide variety of videos including documentaries, archival footage, demonstrations, public affairs programming, feature videos, lectures, and more. Its content is easily accessible and comprehensible, with a function to create and save clips from chosen videos!

Link to specific videos, segments, or clips

Each video title, segment, clip, and playlist has a permalink that you can email, add to Word and pdf documents, or post to Moodle. To see the permalink, click on the "Share" button in the control panel right above the video screen.

Be sure to use this permanent URL rather than the temporary URL in your brower's address bar.

Create your own clips

It's easy to do! Here's how:

  1. Sign in to or create your personal account.
Click on "Sign in" in the upper-right hand corner of the page.
  2. Go to the "Clips" tab when watching a video and click on the "Create Clip" button.
  3. Add a title and description.
  4. Select the sections of your video that you want included.
    You can either:
    • Move the dots on the timebar to select start and stop times.
    • Use the Start/End boxes below the timebar to enter or click through start/stop times.
  5. Indicate whether you want others to see your clips ("Visibilty").
  6. Save your clip.

You can then find your clips on your profile.
