The Alexander Street Press Academic Video Online collection is a great resource for Davidson College researchers with a wide variety of videos including documentaries, archival footage, demonstrations, public affairs programming, feature videos, lectures, and more. Its content is easily accessible and comprehensible, with a function to create and save clips from chosen videos!
A multidisciplinary collection of videos spanning a wide range of subject areas.
Captions are available for all videos with transcripts. Audio descriptions are available for a select number of titles. Search "audio description" for a full list of available titles.
All films include limited public performance rights, which includes permission for classroom showings, as well as public screenings, as long as no admission is being charged.
Each video title, segment, clip, and playlist has a permalink that you can email, add to Word and pdf documents, or post to Moodle. To see the permalink, click on the "Share" button in the control panel right above the video screen.
Be sure to use this permanent URL rather than the temporary URL in your brower's address bar.
It's easy to do! Here's how:
1. Sign in to or create your personal account. Click on "Sign in" in the upper-right hand corner of the page.
2. Go to the "Clips" tab when watching a video and click on the "Create Clip" button.
3. Add a title and description.
4. Select the sections of your video that you want included. You can either:
* Move the dots on the timebar to select start and stop times.
* Use the Start/End boxes below the timebar to enter or click through start/stop times.
5. Indicate whether you want others to see your clips ("Visibility").
6. Save your clip.
You can then find your clips on your profile.
