History 306: Women and Gender in U.S. History to 1870: Female Labor at Davidson College

Rebecca Neal Lynch was the daughter of Davidson College professor, William Bingham Lynch. William Lynch taught Greek and Ancient History at the college from 1860 to 1864.
The collection consists of a letter written by Lynch describing her father's teaching years at Davidson.

The typescripts of the nineteenth century Davidson College trustee meeting minutes are available online and keyword searchable. The Board of Trustees originally comprised of representatives from the various local Presbyterian synods. These records include information about disciplinary actions, faculty proposals, the effects of the Civil War, and the treatment of college "servants."

Most of the documents in this collection concern themselves with the day-to-day operation of the college.

The Reverend Drury Lacy (1802-1884) was president of Davidson College from 1855 to 1860. He had four children by his first wife: Elizabeth, Drury, William, and Singleton. He married Mary Ritchie Rice in 1849 and had three more children: Agnes, Benjamin Rice, and John Holt. The collection consists of correspondence (1851-1859) primarily from Mrs. Mary Lacy to her stepdaughter Bess; an article on the letters (1980), and the manuscripts for seven of Dr. Lacy's sermons (1855-1860).
