Local Commemorations

Cemeteries

In the Town of Davidson, there are three primary cemeteries that are in use today: Mimosa Cemetery, Christian Aid Society Cemetery, and the Davidson College Cemetery. Each of these cemeteries is home to the graves of several veterans.

  • Mimosa Cemetery: Located at 626 South Street, this cemetery is maintained by the Town of Davidson. Graves in this cemetery can be searched on this website.
  • Christian Aid Society Cemetery: Located on Ridge Rd, this cemetery is adjacent to the college's property. This cemetery was organized by the Christian Aid Society, a group of members of Davidson’s African American churches, around 1905. Primarily buried here are residents of the Town of Davidson and former employees of the college. Search graves in this cemetery.
  • Davidson College Cemetery: Located on Main St., this cemetery is owned by Davidson College. The cemetery began in 1838 and most individuals buried here had connections with the college or were related to someone associated with the college. Search graves in this cemetery. In the library, we have a print copy of A Census of the Davidson College Cemetery, compiled by Malcolm Lester, which lists the names of those buried in the cemetery.
