The E.H. Little Library acquires, maintains, and preserves materials which advance learning and research, offer engagement with diverse perspectives, and reflect the distinctiveness of our community. A high quality collection is thoughtfully curated. As the library aligns its collections with diverse research and teaching needs, librarians are committed to critically reviewing and managing the collection to ensure its vitality. In collaboration with faculty, librarians continuously review materials to curate a balanced, relevant, and vibrant collection. To assist in these efforts, analysis of print collections is multi-faceted, utilizing data, faculty consultation, and retention criteria. Through this work, the collection intentionally serves our community of learners in their research, scholarship, and creative pursuits across all disciplines.
The library fulfills its mission not only by collecting new materials but also by being a good steward of its current resources and spaces. Constraints in both budget and space necessitate ongoing evaluation of the existing collection to ensure that the collection as a whole remains relevant, current, and true to the library’s mission.
This guide describes the evaluative process in more details and provides mechanisms for faculty feedback into the collection.
