First Year Students - Guide to Davidson Library Resources

Checking out Books

Your CatCard is also your library card! We have a staffed help desk and a self-checkout machine on the first floor, just past the Information Desk. For information on using the self-checkout machine, visit this guide

Find Books

Use our library catalog to find books. Our catalog contains our e-books, the books physically on our shelves, and books at other libraries. You can find out more about how we organize our books on our Classification Systems guide.

Interlibrary Loan

You can request to be sent PDF scans of book chapters and sections to be sent to your Outlook email. Whether the book you need is at Davidson or another library, just fill out a form through interlibrary loan to initiate the request (one form per chapter/section). Interlibrary loan is always free!

Textbooks

The library typically does not carry textbooks, but Lula Bell's has one copy of each text that was submitted to the bookstore as required for a Davidson course. Learn more at Lula Bell's Academic Resource Request page.

Reserves

To find a reserve book, do an "advanced search" search in the Davidson Library Catalog. Select the course reserves filter, and use your course name (such as His 130) as the search term. An example of this can be found here

Once you have located a reserve book, you can request an "e-Reserve" (a photocopy of a reserve book.) Note: e-reserve requests may take up to a week to process.
