e-Reserves and Course Resources: How to Request

Course Reserves

Course reserve requests for materials already in our collection should be directed to Jason Radcliffe, jaradcliffe@davidson.edu. Search for the resources in the catalog and send the permalinks to Jason before the semester begins. If they are physical resources, he will set them aside for your students to check out on a 3 hour basis.

Course Resource Support

Requesting Electronic and Physical Course Resource Support

The library will continue to offer an electronic course resource support model to provide students with safe and equitable access to the materials they need for their courses. The library will work with you to make course materials available via Leganto/Moodle to provide electronic access for your students. In some cases, availability or copyright restrictions may not permit us to place electronic resources in Leganto or Moodle. In those cases, we are happy to assist you with finding alternatives.

To provide sufficient time to process a streaming request, we ask that faculty submit requests ten days before it is needed for class use. Submissions will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I know if my course readings are covered by Davidson's annual Copyright Clearance license?

You can search the Copyright Clearance Center's RightFind Academic database to check for copyright permissions (https://rightfind.copyright.com/rs-ui-web/welcome). If you have not used this service before, select "Register Your Account" and use your @davidson.edu email address to create an account. 2. I need a multi-user e-textbook for my course, can the library purchase a license for my students?

The library is committed to providing affordable and equitable access to resources for students. Unfortunately, many of the major textbook publishers including Pearson, Cengage, McGraw Hill, Houghton, and others, do not provide e-textbook purchasing options for libraries. Instead, they require that students purchase their textbooks through the college bookstore or from another vendor. There are other options available in place of traditional textbooks including book chapters (to a limited extent), adopting alternate texts already owned by the library, and adopting Open Access resources (OA) or Open Education Resources (OER). If you have questions regarding alternate texts, please email library@davidson.edu.
