HathiTrust is an international collaborative of institutions which seeks to preserve digitized items. HathiTrust began in 2008 and Davidson College Library joined as a supporting institution in 2021. New members are continually joining and contributing to HathiTrust which has over 250 member institutions and provides access to digital copies of millions of books and journals.
The HathiTrust Digital Library contains both public domain and in-copyright materials digitized by Google, the Internet Archive, libraries across the globe, and other projects. Public domain includes pre-1927 publications. Nearly 40% of items in the HathiTrust Digital Library are public domain. Members have full access to public domain items, U.S. Federal Government documents, and works that have been made available by the copyright holder.
