The Bruce Rogers Collection

Collection of books designed by the 20th century typographer and designer, Bruce Rogers

The Song of Roland

The Song of Roland, printed in 1906, was one of the most beautiful of the works Rogers did for the Riverside Press.  It was printed by hand in French Gothic type with hand-colored decorations making one think of stained glass in the Cathedral of Chartres.  The effect is that of an illuminated medieval manuscript.  Rogers considered this one of his most successful books.
