Bruce Rogers is, arguably, one of the most important and noted type designers and printers of the 20th century. His famous Centaur type is still being used. We are fortunate to have in the Rare Book Room a collection of around 200 books printed by Bruce Rogers, donated to us by his friend and physician, Dr. Harold Marvin, Davidson class of 1914. Many of the items in the collection are signed to Dr. Marvin by Rogers (often using his mark 'BR"). Some are copies which were owned by Bruce Rogers, and include his bookplate. One of the most prized items in the collection is the 2 volume "Lectern Bible,". One of only 200 copies, it is printed on handmade paper in modified Centaur type. Our copy was a personal copy belonging to Rogers with his bookplate.
