Welcome! This guide is a compilation of resources focused on Sexual Revolutions: Women, Gender, & Sex in Modern Europe as well as European history more generally. Organized by resource type, this guide will direct you to reference resources such as encyclopedias and databases for general information; primary sources in the form of newspaper articles, and first hand accounts through memoirs, diaries, letters, and travel notes; and secondary sources including books recommended specifically for the research needs of this course.

The resources on this guide are accessible in two different ways. Titles that are hyperlinked are available online to students and faculty at Davidson College using the direct links on this guide or through our A-Z Database list. Titles with a location and call number (such as Ground Floor HQ12 .H39 1996) are available for check out or reference use within the library.

With the rise of industrialization, the number of German women who worked outside the home also increased. This usually meant factory work. But in some families with their own businesses, daughters also learned a trade so that they could help out: here, we see a master-mason's daughter during the renovation work on the old city hall tower in Berlin.
