Bringing your students to the library

You are most welcome to bring your students to the library; we just ask that you follow the procedures below.

Bringing your classes to the library for study time or group work
We have two areas on the main floor that can be reserved for TIP classes; each has tables and computers. The first space has 15 computers that can be reserved; the second has 16 computers that can be reserved for TIP.

To arrange to bring your class to the library,

  1. Please contact the TIP Academic Coordinator to schedule a day and time.
The Academic Coordinator will enter the information into a shared calendar; libraary staff consult this calendar to determine which group is in the library at a particular time.
    Please note:
    •  We can only accommodate two TIP classes in the library at any one time.
    • During July, we will have another academic program on campus, so we ask that you do not schedule visits between 11 am and 12:30 pm in July.
  2. Please keep your class together and in your reserved area.
  3. Please be considerate of Davidson students, research assistants, and faculty who are doing research in the library. We have set aside some computers and tables on the main floor for them to use; these will be clearly labelled.
The computers on the lower (basement) level and top floor are reserved for Davidson students, research assistants, and faculty members.

Bringing individual students or small groups of students to the library to retrieve books
If you are bringing individual students to the library to check out books, you do not need to make a reservation.

Please note that students who want to use the library during their free time will need to have TIP adult supervision.

Computers
The library has a number of computers; most are dual-boot iMacs located on the main floor. You and your students are welcome to use them to access online resources and use Microsoft Office applications.

  • Logging into computers
TIP instructors will need to log in for students.
  • Printing
The library uses PawPrint, the print management software on campus. Instructors will need to swipe their CatCards at the printers in order to release students' print jobs.
  • Scanners
We have two scanning workstations on the main floor; instructors will need to log in for students.
  • Headphones
Earbuds are available for purchase at the Information Desk.
