Archives and Special Collections

An introduction to using materials in Davidson College's Archives and Special Collections.

Working with Materials in Archives & Special Collections

1. Make an appointment:

Use our LibCal service on the main library page or email to make an appointment with one of our archivists.

Select a 30 minute time period: Archives & Special Collections is open to appointments beginning any time between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Explain your research interests and reference specific materials when possible.

2. Prepare for your visit:

Archives & Special Collections is located on the second floor of the E.H. Little Library.

You will use your materials in the Rare Book Room. Archival materials cannot be checked out.

Sign-in on a clipboard located to the right of the main door.

Only pencils are allowed in the Rare Book Room.

Leave any drinks and/or food in a secure locker provided by staff.

Pictures of certain materials are allowed, provided flash is turned off. Ask the archivist before taking photographs.

Researchers can access one archival box or book at a time.

3. Return all materials to the archivist when you are finished:

Schedule a return visit as needed.
